Morehead City, NC (August 7, 2026) – A 39-year-old woman died on Wednesday night after a vehicle struck her on US-70 near Old Murdock Rd in Carteret County.
The accident happened at approximately 9:44 p.m. Amanda Vaughan was crossing the westbound travel lanes when a car struck her. The initial report stated that Vaughan was in the roadway and was not wearing reflective clothing at the time.
Vaughan was taken to Carteret Health Care in Morehead City, where she was later pronounced dead. No charges were filed against the driver. The investigation into the fatal wreck remains ongoing as officials review the circumstances.
