Our condolences go to the man’s family and loved ones.
Pedestrian Crashes Near Shopping Areas Can Become Severe
Pedestrian crashes near shopping districts can be especially dangerous because roads may carry both steady traffic and people walking nearby. Drivers may be watching signals, turning vehicles, parking entrances, or crosswalks while pedestrians move through the same corridor.
Evening hours can add more risk. Darkness, headlights, storefront lighting, and shadows may make it harder to see someone near the roadway. A person on foot has no protection during contact with a vehicle, so injuries can become life-threatening quickly.
Road closures after a serious pedestrian accident may be needed so crews can keep traffic away from the affected lanes. Reviews regularly focus on lighting, traffic direction, lane position, driver movement, and where the pedestrian was before being hit.
