What Is Commonly Reviewed in Highway Pedestrian Crashes?
Highway pedestrian crashes are often reviewed by examining how the person entered the roadway and whether visibility or lighting conditions affected drivers’ detection. Investigators typically assess roadway design, shoulder access points, and nearby ramps or crossings.
Vehicle speed, reaction time, and lane positioning are also key factors in understanding how the collision occurred. Physical evidence, such as skid marks and debris patterns, can help reconstruct the sequence of events.
Because highway environments involve higher speeds, pedestrian incidents on freeways often result in severe outcomes. Investigators use roadway data, witness statements, and scene measurements to better understand how and why the crash developed.
