Micco, FL (August 28, 2026) – A pedestrian died on Thursday morning, August 27, after being struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk at US-1 and Barefoot Blvd. The collision was reported around 5:15 a.m. in south Brevard County, just north of Micco Rd at the entrance to Barefoot Bay.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2011 Kia Soul was traveling south on US-1 in the inside lane while approaching the intersection. The pedestrian was walking west through the southern crosswalk when the Kia struck the person.
The driver told investigators the traffic signal was green when the Kia entered the intersection and said the pedestrian was not visible in the crosswalk. The Florida Highway Patrol said it was still determining the traffic light’s status at the time of the accident.
The driver and a passenger were not injured and remained at the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the site, and the person’s name had not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Southbound US-1 lanes were blocked while emergency units worked at the location. The investigation into the fatal collision remains active. Our condolences go to the pedestrian’s loved ones.
