Los Angeles, CA (September 1, 2026) – A pedestrian was killed late on Sunday night, August 30, after being struck by two vehicles on Imperial Highway in the Willowbrook area of Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the crash happened shortly before 10:00 p.m. near the 1300 block of Imperial Highway. Investigators said the pedestrian was crossing the roadway when a light-colored SUV traveling east struck them.

Police said the SUV driver left the scene without stopping to identify themselves or render aid. While the pedestrian remained in the roadway, a second vehicle traveling west struck the victim. The second driver immediately stopped, remained at the scene, and called for emergency assistance.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities had not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.

South Traffic Division detectives are investigating and seeking information about the hit-and-run vehicle and driver. We extend our sincere condolences to the pedestrian’s family and loved ones.

Why Can Secondary Impacts Make Pedestrian Crashes Even More Dangerous?

Pedestrians have little protection from the force of a vehicle impact, leaving them vulnerable to severe injuries during an initial collision.

If a person is left in an active roadway after being struck, passing drivers may have limited time to see and avoid them. A second impact can expose the victim to additional forces before emergency crews arrive.

Traffic speed, visibility, lighting, roadway position, and the time between impacts can all influence the outcome. These factors can make pedestrian crashes involving multiple vehicles especially likely to result in fatal injuries.
