Brownsville, TX (September 8, 2026) – A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle early Sunday, September 6, on SH 4, also known as Boca Chica Boulevard, west of FM 511 in Brownsville. The crash happened at about 12:02 a.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, a silver 2024 Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound on SH 4. After crossing the intersection, the Jeep hit the curb along the roadway. A witness then saw a male pedestrian lying in the westbound lane as the Jeep continued west. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Eduardo Hernandez of Brownsville, did not stop to provide aid.
Emergency units found the pedestrian at the scene, where he died from his injuries. His identity will be released after his next of kin is notified. Authorities later located the Jeep and Hernandez several hours after the crash. Hernandez was arrested and taken to the Cameron County jail. He faces charges of failure to stop and render aid and collision involving death.
The incident remains under review as authorities continue to investigate the crash.
