What Factors Are Commonly Reviewed After a Fatal Pedestrian Crash?
Fatal pedestrian crashes require a detailed review of several factors to help determine how the incident unfolded. Investigators typically examine the location of the crash, roadway design, lighting conditions, traffic flow, and weather at the time of the event. Visibility can be a significant factor, particularly during nighttime hours when drivers and pedestrians may have less time to react.
Vehicle speeds, witness statements, and physical evidence found at the scene may also help establish a timeline. In some cases, surveillance footage, traffic cameras, or vehicle damage can provide additional information. Road markings, crosswalk locations, and pedestrian activity in the area are frequently evaluated as well. Reviewing these details helps create a clearer picture of the circumstances surrounding a crash and may identify factors that contributed to the incident.
