Why Hit-and-Run Investigations Can Take Time
Hit-and-run cases usually require investigators to gather evidence from several sources before identifying the driver involved. Physical evidence left on the roadway, vehicle debris, surveillance footage from nearby businesses or traffic cameras, and witness statements can all help build a clearer picture of what happened. In some cases, forensic experts compare paint transfers or damaged vehicle parts to narrow down the type of vehicle involved.
The amount of available evidence varies widely from one case to another, which can affect how quickly investigators make progress. Public tips also frequently help identify drivers who leave the roadway after striking someone. As additional evidence is reviewed, more details may become available about the circumstances leading up to the fatal hit-and-run.
