Phoenix, AZ (July 25, 2026) – A man succumbed to injuries after being hit by an SUV early Friday morning, July 24, in central Phoenix. The collision was reported near 16th Street and Brill Street, south of McDowell Road, shortly before 5 a.m.
Authorities said the pedestrian was found badly injured in the roadway when emergency crews arrived. Medical personnel performed life-saving measures, but the man was later pronounced dead at the location. The victim’s identity remains unknown at the time of this report.
The police said the pedestrian was crossing mid-block and not in a crosswalk when he was struck by a northbound Chevy Tahoe on 16th Street. The driver remained at the scene and was not impaired at the time of the crash. The SUV had front-end damage, including damage near the headlight area.
The 16th St was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated before reopening later on Friday morning. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available.
