Officials said the victim, an adult woman believed to be around 50 years old, sustained serious injuries in the incident. Paramedics provided treatment at the scene before transporting her to Eskenazi Hospital for further medical care.

Additional details regarding the circumstances of the crash, including the vehicle involved and the events leading up to the collision, were not immediately released.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Pedestrian Collisions Frequently Result in Severe Injuries

Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable roadway users because they have little protection in collisions with motor vehicles. Even crashes occurring at relatively low speeds can result in serious injuries requiring hospitalization.

Investigators reviewing pedestrian crashes typically examine factors such as traffic signals, roadway design, visibility, vehicle speed, and witness statements. Authorities may also evaluate whether pedestrians and motorists were complying with applicable traffic laws at the time of the incident.

Urban intersections pose greater risks due to higher traffic volumes and interactions among vehicles, pedestrians, and turning movements. Ongoing investigations help officials determine contributing factors and identify potential safety
