How Do Icy Road Conditions Contribute to Head-on Crashes?
Roads like Old Highway Road can become hazardous during icy conditions, especially when temperatures drop quickly. Reduced traction makes it harder for drivers to maintain control, especially at higher speeds or when navigating curves.
When a vehicle loses grip on ice, it can slide into opposing lanes without much warning. This increases the risk of head-on collisions, especially on two-lane roads without barriers separating opposing traffic.
Vehicle control depends on speed, tire condition, and driver reaction. Slowing down and allowing extra space between vehicles can help reduce the chance of losing control on slick roadways.
