What Information Is Reviewed in a Hit-and-Run Investigation?
Hit-and-run crashes can present unique challenges because one of the involved drivers may leave before exchanging information or speaking with investigators. As a result, early efforts regularly focus on identifying the departing vehicle and determining its direction of travel.
Investigators frequently review witness statements, vehicle descriptions, physical evidence left behind, and any available surveillance or traffic camera footage. Even small details, such as vehicle color, damage patterns, or partial license plate information, can help establish leads.
Injury-related hit-and-run cases may also involve reviewing medical records and documenting vehicle damage to better understand how the collision occurred. By combining information from multiple sources, investigators can work toward reconstructing the sequence of events and identifying all parties involved in the crash.
