Sonora, CA (July 31, 2026) — One person was killed in a head-on crash on Highway 108 at Lower Mono Way in Sonora on Thursday, July 30.
The collision was reported at approximately 1:23 p.m. after an iPhone crash-detection alert notified authorities.
Emergency medical services, CAL FIRE, and the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office responded. CHP closed Highway 108 while crews investigated, diverting westbound traffic at Lower Mono Way and eastbound traffic at Washington Street.
The roadway reopened by approximately 3:57 p.m. Authorities did not release information about the deceased person or explain what caused the vehicles to collide head-on. The investigation remains ongoing.
