La Mesa, CA (August 11, 2026) – Two people were outside their vehicle after a dark-colored vehicle struck the center divider on August 9 on westbound I-8 near SR-67 and Magnolia Avenue. One person was then struck by another vehicle on the eastbound side.
The report stated that the driver and passenger got out of their vehicle and crossed the center divider. A person was later found lying in the freeway, while another person reportedly ran into the lanes to pull them toward the right shoulder.
The person who was struck was dragged to the right shoulder. The report also indicated that the vehicle involved in the initial crash did not stop on the shoulder. A dark-colored vehicle was described as having struck the center divider and spun around.
Emergency units were sent to the area, and a tow request was later made for the westbound side near SR-67.
Authorities are continuing to examine what led to the collision and the subsequent pedestrian strike.
