Phelps, MO (January 27, 2026) – A woman was injured Monday afternoon after her minivan was sideswiped by an unidentified vehicle along the westbound lanes of I-44 near mile marker 189 in Phelps County.
The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m., when a 2016 Kia Sedona, driven by a 28-year-old woman from Rolla, was struck on the side by another vehicle while traveling westbound. The impact forced the Kia off the roadway and into the median. The other vehicle involved fled or was not immediately identified at the scene, and no further description was made available.
Trooper C.A. Clinton with the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the crash. Emergency medical services from Phelps Health arrived soon after and provided aid to the injured driver, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. She was later transported by ambulance to Phelps Health Hospital with what authorities described as injuries.
The Kia sustained total damage and was removed from the scene by a private towing service. The westbound lanes experienced brief disruptions as officials managed the aftermath of the crash and gathered witness statements.
An investigation is underway to identify the second vehicle involved and determine whether it fled the scene or remained unaccounted for due to a lack of information. Anyone with details about the crash or the unidentified vehicle is urged to contact local law enforcement.
Our thoughts are with the injured woman, and we hope for her quick and full recovery
