Why Intersection Crashes Can Be Especially Severe in City Traffic
Intersections in busy urban areas are common locations for serious crashes due to the high number of crossing traffic movements and limited reaction time. When vehicles approach simultaneously from different directions, even a brief misjudgment in timing or speed can result in a high-impact collision.
Crashes involving smaller vehicles such as ATVs can be particularly severe when they interact with passenger vehicles, as there is often a large difference in size and protection for occupants. This can increase the likelihood of serious injury in the event of a collision.
In situations involving multiple passengers, such as rideshare trips, the impact extends beyond the drivers involved. Ensuring caution at intersections and maintaining awareness of surrounding traffic signals and movement patterns is critical to reducing these types of serious incidents.
