Factors That Can Contribute to Intersection Crashes
Intersections are common sites for serious collisions because vehicles approach from multiple directions. Turning movements, traffic signal timing, and driver attention all influence the likelihood of accidents.
Vehicle size, speed, and road conditions can also affect the severity of injuries in a crash. Extrication is sometimes necessary when occupants are trapped due to vehicle damage.
Remaining alert, obeying traffic signals, and slowing down at intersections are key ways drivers can reduce the risk of serious accidents. Pedestrians and passengers also benefit from using seat belts and safety restraints in these situations.
