Phoenix, AZ (March 19, 2026) – A man lost his life after being struck by multiple vehicles along a busy Phoenix roadway.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, near the intersection of 35th Ave and Thomas Rd. Emergency units responded to reports of a pedestrian crash and located a man lying in the roadway.
The victim was identified as 58-year-old Jeffery Dale Anderson. Medics attempted aid at the scene, but he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Initial reports indicate Anderson was walking northbound across Thomas Rd outside of a marked crosswalk when he was first struck by a vehicle. That driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Authorities believe the victim was then struck by two additional vehicles that did not stop. Investigators are working to identify those drivers. Officials reported no signs of impairment in the driver, who remained at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
Why Multi-Vehicle Pedestrian Crashes Can Occur on Busy Roads
Pedestrian crashes sometimes involve more than one vehicle, particularly on roads with heavy traffic and multiple lanes. When a person is struck and falls into the roadway, approaching drivers may have little time to react.
Nighttime conditions can also affect how quickly drivers notice someone in the road. Reduced lighting may limit visibility, especially when traffic is moving at regular speeds.
Busy urban streets often carry a steady flow of vehicles in both directions. If a pedestrian is not in a marked crossing area, drivers may not anticipate that someone will enter the roadway.
Traffic speed, lane configuration, and lighting conditions can all influence how these incidents unfold. On high-traffic roads, even a brief moment can lead to additional impacts involving multiple vehicles.
