Frequently Asked Questions
What can drivers do to stay safer on highways like Route 50?
Keeping a safe following distance, slowing down in heavy traffic or poor visibility, and staying alert near intersections can help drivers react in time to avoid a crash.
What injuries are common in crashes like this one?
Depending on speed and impact, drivers and passengers can suffer whiplash, broken bones, head injuries or internal injuries. Severity usually depends on how fast vehicles were moving at the time of impact.
What usually causes crashes at highway intersections?
Common causes include failure to yield, distracted driving, misjudging the speed of oncoming traffic, and driving too fast for conditions.
Does speed make a difference in how bad a crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force involved in a collision, which tends to make injuries more severe.
