PLACER, Placer County, Calif., Oct. 25, 2026 — Three teenagers were hurt early Saturday morning, October 24, when a pickup truck rolled over in unincorporated Placer County, ejecting one passenger from the vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported just before 12:30 a.m. in the 9100 block of Wise Road, CHP's Auburn office said. A 16-year-old was reportedly driving a Toyota pickup westbound when the truck crossed into the eastbound lanes, left the roadway, and rolled over on the south shoulder.
The driver and a 16-year-old passenger suffered moderate injuries, CHP said. A 17-year-old passenger was thrown from the vehicle and suffered severe injuries. All three were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators said drug and alcohol use is suspected as a factor in the crash. It remains unclear whether the driver will face charges, and the case is still under investigation.
We hope everyone who was hurt makes a full and speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I avoid driving after drinking or using drugs?
Plan ahead before any outing where alcohol or drugs will be involved. Arrange a designated sober driver, use a rideshare service, or stay where you are until you're no longer impaired.
What should I do if I think a nearby driver is impaired?
Keep your distance, avoid trying to pass or signal them, and call local law enforcement with your location and a description of the vehicle so officers can respond.
Why are impaired-driving crashes often more severe?
Alcohol and drugs slow reaction time and impair judgment, so impaired drivers often fail to brake, steer, or correct in time to avoid losing control, which can lead to higher speeds at impact and rollovers like this one.
Do drugs other than alcohol affect driving?
Yes. Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and illegal substances can all impair coordination, attention, and reaction time, and CHP and other agencies routinely test for drug impairment alongside alcohol.
What to Do After a Rollover Crash in Placer, CA
If you're involved in or witness a rollover crash, call 911 right away and stay as still as possible until medical responders arrive, since rollover injuries aren't always obvious at first. Anyone involved, even with no visible injuries, should get checked by a medical provider, as impacts from rolling and being thrown within or from a vehicle can cause internal injuries that take time to show symptoms. Make sure to get the names and badge numbers of responding officers and ask how to obtain the official crash report once it's completed. If you're a parent or guardian of a teen passenger or driver, keep records of medical visits and any communication from law enforcement for your own reference going forward.
