Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if I witness a hit-and-run crash?
Try to note the vehicle's color, make, model and any part of the license plate, along with the direction it was traveling. Call 911 right away and give that information to responding officers, since small details often help investigators identify a vehicle later.
How do weather and road conditions affect a driver's ability to stop in time?
Low light, wet pavement and glare can all lengthen stopping distances and reduce how clearly a driver sees a pedestrian or cyclist ahead. Reduced visibility, especially around dawn or dusk, is a factor in many pedestrian crashes.
What should I do immediately after being involved in a car accident?
Move to safety if possible, call 911, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor at first. Documenting the scene and getting a copy of the police report can also matter later.
What to Do After a Hit-and-Run Crash in Williamsburg, VA
Being hit by a vehicle that doesn't stop is frightening and disorienting, and the first priority is getting checked out by a doctor, even when adrenaline is masking the pain. Injuries from pedestrian crashes can take hours to fully show themselves, so a hospital evaluation matters even if someone feels able to walk away. If you or a family member witnessed what happened, write down what you remember as soon as you can, including any details about the vehicle, since memory fades quickly. Cooperating with investigators and keeping records of medical visits can also help if the case moves forward once a driver is identified.
