Plano, TX (March 3, 2026) – A 15-year-old boy died in a crash on Monday afternoon, March 2, that shut down the northbound lanes of Independence Parkway. The collision occurred around 12 p.m. in the 600 block of Independence Parkway.
Investigators said a blue Chevrolet Volt was traveling south when the driver lost control. The vehicle crossed the center median and struck a white Lincoln Navigator traveling north.
Four people were inside the Navigator, including the driver and three passengers. One passenger, identified as 15-year-old Carter Heise, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three occupants were taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
The driver of the Chevrolet Volt was not hospitalized. Speed appears to have been a contributing factor, though officials have not said whether charges will be filed.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.
How Median-Crossing Crashes Can Become Deadly
Crashes involving a vehicle crossing a center median often occur when a driver loses control. Speed, sudden steering, or roadway conditions can cause a vehicle to veer into opposing traffic.
When a car enters the oncoming lanes, other drivers may have little time to react. These collisions are often head-on or nearly head-on, which increases the impact force.
Roadway medians are designed to separate traffic moving in opposite directions. When that barrier is crossed, the risk of severe or fatal injuries rises sharply due to the combined speed of both vehicles.
