How Police Pursuits Can Create Risks for Pedestrians
Police pursuits can unfold quickly and may place people on sidewalks, crosswalks, and nearby streets in danger. When a fleeing driver ignores traffic signals or travels against traffic, pedestrians may have very little time to react.
Busy city roads can make these emergencies even more dangerous. Cars, buses, parked vehicles, business entrances, and foot traffic may all be close together. A sudden turn or loss of control can affect several people within seconds.
Pedestrian injuries in these cases can vary widely. Some people may be hit directly, while others may be injured by debris, falling objects, or nearby vehicles. Medical teams often check for head trauma, fractures, internal harm, and breathing problems after high-force roadway contact.
