Why Rollover Crashes Can Cause Serious Injuries in Teen Drivers
Rollover crashes often result in more severe injuries because occupants can be thrown around inside the vehicle or ejected if they are not restrained. SUVs have a higher center of gravity, which can increase the risk of rolling when a vehicle leaves the roadway or overcorrects.
Teen drivers may be more vulnerable in these situations due to limited driving experience, especially on rural roads with narrow shoulders or sharp curves. Losing control at higher speeds can quickly lead to a vehicle leaving the roadway and overturning.
Investigators typically examine speed, road conditions, driver reaction, and seat belt use when reviewing rollover crashes. Vehicle damage patterns and roadway evidence also help determine how the crash unfolded.
