Why Hit-and-Run Crashes Involving Pedestrians Can Be Difficult to Resolve
Busy corridors such as Jamaica Avenue often carry both heavy vehicle traffic and frequent pedestrian crossings. When a crash occurs and the driver leaves the scene, investigators may have limited information during the early stages of the case.
Witness accounts, traffic cameras, and nearby surveillance systems may help identify the vehicle involved. These sources can provide details about the direction the vehicle traveled or the time the crash occurred.
Hit-and-run incidents involving pedestrians often receive close review because the injured person may require immediate medical help. Identifying the vehicle involved can be a key step in determining how the crash occurred and what actions led up to it.
