Queenstown, MD (March 23, 2026) – Six people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Route 50 near White Lowe Road. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 22.
Maryland State Police reported that a Toyota Corolla failed to stop at a red light and struck a Ford Fiesta attempting to make a left turn at the intersection. The collision caused the Ford to hit a light pole, while the Toyota overturned into an embankment and struck a tree.
Two passengers in the Toyota, ages 17 and 25, were flown to a local trauma center. The Toyota’s 18-year-old driver and two additional passengers, ages 18 and 20, were taken to a nearby hospital. The Ford driver, a 46-year-old woman, was also transported by ambulance for treatment.
Route 50 was closed for roughly three hours while crews responded to the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision, and more details will be released as they become available.
We hope all those injured in the crash make a full and swift recovery.
Understanding Red-Light Crashes
Intersections with traffic signals are common locations for collisions, especially when drivers fail to stop. Red-light crashes can result in severe injuries due to the sudden force of impact and the angles at which vehicles collide.
Vehicles may strike stationary objects, other vehicles, or roadside structures like light poles and embankments, increasing the risk of injury. Occupant age, seat belt use, and vehicle size can influence how severely passengers are hurt.
Investigators often examine signal timing, driver actions, and road conditions to determine how such crashes occurred. Awareness and compliance with traffic signals remain critical to reducing intersection collisions.
