QUINCY, Placer County, Calif., Oct. 27, 2026 — A two-vehicle crash left a pickup truck on its roof on Sunday morning, October 25, on Highway 70 in front of the Quincy Caltrans maintenance yard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP stated that the crash was reported shortly before 8 a.m. near the maintenance yard off Highway 70. A black Toyota Tacoma ended up on its roof, resting on three intact tires. A second vehicle, described as a black truck, reportedly left the scene before authorities arrived, though that detail has not been confirmed.
The Plumas County Sheriff's Office responded along with fire and medical crews. Quincy-area CHP officers were reported busy at the time, suggesting other calls were in progress during the response.
A tow truck was requested to clear the overturned Tacoma, and the vehicle was later removed from the roadway, according to the dispatch log. The extent of any injuries has not been released, and CHP has not said whether the second vehicle has been located or whether charges are being considered.
The crash remains under investigation.
We hope those who were hurt recover fully and quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes a vehicle roll over?
Rollovers typically occur when a vehicle's tires lose grip in a turn or during a sudden steering input, especially at higher speeds, causing the vehicle to roll onto its side or roof.
Why are rollover crashes considered especially risky?
Occupants can be thrown against the roof or ejected if unbelted, and the roof itself can cave in under the vehicle's weight, so injuries in a rollover often differ from those in a typical frontal or side impact.
Are some vehicles more likely to roll over than others?
Taller, narrower vehicles such as pickups and SUVs have a higher center of gravity and tip more easily than low, wide sedans, though sudden steering or a tire blowout can cause a rollover in nearly any vehicle.
Does wearing a seat belt matter in a rollover?
Yes. A seat belt keeps an occupant positioned inside the vehicle as it tips, which lowers the chance of being thrown against the roof or out of the vehicle entirely.
What to Do After a Rollover Crash in Quincy, CA
If you're involved in a rollover, stay as still as possible and check yourself for pain or numbness before moving, since adrenaline can mask injuries at first. Remember to turn on hazard lights if you're able, and get away from the road only if it's safe to do so. Call 911 even if injuries seem minor, because head, neck, and spine injuries from a rollover don't always show symptoms right away. Seek a medical evaluation the same day, keep any paperwork from first responders, and follow up with your own doctor if soreness or stiffness develops over the following days.
