VALDOSTA, Lowndes County, Ga., Oct. 27, 2026 — Two people were hurt on Sunday morning, October 25, when a semi-truck and a pickup truck collided twice on I-75 south in Valdosta, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The crash happened around 11:11 a.m. near mile marker 16. A Volvo semi hauling a trailer was traveling in the middle lane when it reportedly clipped a Ford Ranger pickup in the right lane. That contact sent the pickup spinning, and it then struck the semi head-on.

The pickup rolled onto its driver's side in the emergency lane after the second collision, the state patrol reported.

The driver of the pickup, identified by GSP as a 51-year-old man from Alapaha, GA, and a passenger riding with him were taken to South Georgia Medical Center. Troopers described their injuries as minor.

Emergency crews, including the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office along with fire and ambulance units, responded to the scene and shut down portions of I-75 for several hours while the wreck was cleared. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

We hope everyone who was hurt makes a full and speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do after a crash involving a commercial truck?

Call 911 if anyone needs medical attention, stay clear of traffic lanes, and get checked out by a medical provider even if injuries seem minor. Get the names of responding agencies and, if possible, photos of the scene before vehicles are moved.

Why do big rigs need so much distance to stop?

A loaded tractor-trailer can weigh tens of thousands of pounds more than a passenger vehicle, so it takes far longer to slow down or stop, especially at highway speeds. That extra stopping distance is one reason sudden lane changes near trucks can turn dangerous fast.

What makes a truck crash different from a typical car accident?

The size and weight gap between a semi and a smaller vehicle means the smaller car usually absorbs most of the force. That mismatch often leads to more serious injuries for the occupants of the car or pickup involved.

What are a truck's blind spots, and why do they matter?

Tractor-trailers have large blind spots along both sides, directly behind the trailer, and close to the front of the cab. Drivers in passenger vehicles should avoid lingering in those zones and remember that if they can't see the truck driver's mirrors, the driver likely can't see them either.
