Frequently Asked Questions
Are intersections a common site for bicycle crashes?
Yes. Many collisions between cyclists and vehicles happen where roads cross or where a car is turning, since that is where paths intersect, and drivers may not see a cyclist in time.
What injuries are typical in a bicycle-vehicle collision?
Cyclists hit by a vehicle frequently suffer broken bones, head injuries, and road rash from being thrown from the bike, along with injuries to the legs or torso depending on how the impact occurs.
What usually causes these crashes?
Common factors include drivers failing to see a cyclist, turning vehicles cutting across a bike's path, distracted or impaired driving, and low visibility conditions such as nighttime riding.
