Frequently Asked Questions
How do highways try to prevent wrong-way entries?
Many highways use measures like reflective wrong-way signs, lowered sign placement visible to headlights, and sensors that alert traffic control centers when a vehicle enters against traffic. Not all stretches of highway have these systems in place.
Does alcohol play a role in wrong-way crashes?
Impairment is a common factor in wrong-way crashes nationally, though it is not confirmed in every case. Investigators typically review toxicology results and other evidence before determining a cause.
Are wrong-way crashes more common on certain roads?
They tend to happen more often on divided highways with limited entry points, especially near interchanges or ramps where a driver can mistakenly enter the wrong lanes.
What to Do After a Wrong-Way Crash in Revere, MA
If you're involved in or witness a wrong-way crash, get to a safe location first and call 911 immediately. Even if injuries seem minor, it's worth getting checked by a medical professional, since shock and adrenaline can mask pain or symptoms of a concussion. Write down what you remember as soon as you can, including the time, road conditions, and anything you saw or heard, while the details are fresh. If you're a parent or school community member affected by a loss like this, lean on local counseling resources and give yourself time to process. Cooperating fully with investigators and keeping copies of any official reports or medical records can help if questions arise later about what happened.
