Richford, VT (March 31, 2026) – A 20-year-old man was seriously hurt after a motorcycle crash involving a tractor-trailer on Monday evening in Richford.
Emergency units responded to the scene on Troy St just before 6:15 p.m. on Monday, March 30. Authorities said Adam Blodgett was riding east when he entered a corner and collided head-on with the oncoming truck.
Blodgett became trapped beneath the tractor-trailer following the impact. Rescue crews worked to free him before he was taken to the hospital in critical but not life-threatening condition.
The truck driver was not reported injured in the incident. Blodgett’s family later shared that he faces a long recovery and emphasized the value of blood donations during emergencies.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of the injured rider as they receive medical care.
How Head-on Motorcycle Crashes Often Lead to Severe Injuries
Head-on crashes involving motorcycles often result in serious injury due to the lack of rider protection. Unlike enclosed vehicles, motorcycles leave the rider exposed, increasing the risk of being thrown or trapped during an impact.
Road conditions and visibility around curves can also affect how these crashes happen. When a rider enters a bend, limited sight distance may reduce reaction time, especially if another vehicle is approaching from the opposite direction.
The size difference between motorcycles and larger vehicles, such as trucks, adds another layer of risk. Even at moderate speeds, the force of impact can lead to severe injuries, making quick emergency response and medical care critical in these situations.
