What Can Cause a Rollover Crash?
Rollover crashes can happen when a vehicle loses stability during a sudden maneuver, roadway departure, or impact. Vehicle speed, steering movements, road conditions, and the vehicle’s design can affect the risk of a rollover. SUVs and other vehicles with a higher center of gravity may respond differently during abrupt changes in direction.
Seat belts can reduce the risk of occupants being thrown from a vehicle during a rollover. Drivers can also lower crash risks by maintaining a safe speed, staying attentive, and avoiding sudden steering movements. Properly maintained tires and safe driving practices can further help drivers maintain control.
