Frequently Asked Questions
How do left-turning vehicles cause collisions with motorcycles?
A common pattern involves a car turning left across an intersection and misjudging a motorcycle's speed or distance, or simply not seeing it before pulling into its path. These crashes often happen at intersections where sightlines are blocked by other vehicles.
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles more easily?
Taking an extra second to check twice before turning or changing lanes helps, since a motorcycle's narrow profile can be easy to miss in a quick glance. Checking mirrors and blind spots specifically for smaller vehicles is especially important at intersections.
What should a motorcyclist or passenger do after a crash?
Call 911 right away and avoid moving unless staying in place creates more danger. Even if injuries seem minor, a medical evaluation is important since some injuries, like internal trauma or concussions, are not immediately obvious.
Are intersections a common site for motorcycle crashes?
Yes, intersections are a frequent location for car-motorcycle collisions, largely because of turning movements and the limited time drivers have to spot a motorcycle before a maneuver.
What to Do After a Motorcycle Crash in Sacramento, CA
If you or someone you know is involved in a motorcycle crash, getting checked by a medical provider as soon as possible is important, even when injuries aren't obvious at first. Keep a record of what responding officers tell you, including any report number, since that documentation can matter later. If you witness a crash, staying at the scene to give a statement to police can help investigators piece together what happened. For anyone close to a crash like this one, giving yourself space to process it and leaning on family, friends, or local support resources is a reasonable and healthy step.
