SACRAMENTO, Sacramento County, Calif., Oct. 28, 2026 — Two vehicles collided Tuesday morning, October 27, on the transition connecting southbound Interstate 5 to eastbound US-50 in Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol. At least one person was reportedly hurt.
The California Highway Patrol said a gray Toyota Tacoma and a red Ford Mustang were involved in the crash on the transition ramp just before 6:30 a.m. Initial reports described the Tacoma against a guardrail on the left side of the transition, though the full sequence of events has not been confirmed. The call was first logged as a collision with unknown injuries before being updated to reflect a report of minor injuries.
Responders also noted a vehicle fire at the scene, and at least one lane was blocked for a time while crews worked, the agency reported. A tow truck was requested to clear the roadway, and traffic maps flagged a lane blockage on southbound I-5 just north of the US-50 interchange during the response.
The collision remains under review. We hope those who were hurt recover quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do right after a car accident?
Move to a safe location if possible, check for injuries, and call 911. Exchange information with the other driver and, if you're able, take photos of the vehicles and the scene before anything is moved.
Where do most traffic accidents happen?
Many crashes cluster around interchanges, on-ramps and lane transitions, where vehicles merge, slow, or change speed quickly in a short stretch of roadway.
What injuries are most common in car accidents?
Neck and back strain, concussions, and cuts or bruises from broken glass or impact are common, even in crashes classified as minor injury. Some injuries don't show symptoms right away, so a medical check is worth doing even if you feel fine.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Sacramento, CA
If you're involved in a crash on a freeway transition or interchange in Sacramento, try to get your vehicle out of traffic lanes if it's drivable and safe to do so. Turn on hazard lights and stay inside the vehicle if you're stopped in a live lane, since walking along a ramp shoulder near fast-moving traffic carries its own risk. Get checked by a medical provider even for minor pain, and keep copies of any CHP incident report once it becomes available for insurance purposes.
