How Chain-Reaction Crashes Develop on Interstates
Crashes involving multiple large trucks can escalate quickly, especially on busy highways during early morning hours. When a vehicle overturns or blocks a lane, approaching drivers may have little time to react, leading to additional collisions.
Large trucks require more distance to stop compared to smaller vehicles. When traffic is moving at highway speeds, sudden obstacles can create a chain reaction. Reduced visibility at night or in early morning hours may also increase the risk of follow-up crashes.
The size and weight of commercial vehicles can cause more severe damage during impact. Road conditions, driver awareness, and traffic flow all influence how these incidents unfold and how many vehicles become involved.
