San Antonio, TX (February 20, 2026) – A major multi-vehicle crash involving a fire engine occurred on Friday morning, February 20, at the intersection of Marbach Rd and Military Dr W on the city’s west side. Emergency units responded to the scene around 8:30 a.m. after reports of a serious collision involving several vehicles.
Authorities said at least six vehicles were involved, including a Bill Miller Bar-B-Q box delivery truck and a blue Toyota truck. The crash was described as a sideways glancing blow that caused both the fire engine and the box truck to lose control in the middle of the intersection. A small concrete retaining wall stopped the fire engine just inches before it struck a nearby utility pole.
Three drivers were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Police reported that the drivers of the box truck and the blue Toyota truck are expected to recover. The condition of the third hospitalized driver has not been released.
Crews worked to clear the wreckage and reopen the intersection following the crash. No other injuries have been reported; authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
What Multi-Vehicle Crashes at Busy Intersections Can Reveal
Intersections like Marbach Rd and Military Dr W often handle heavy morning traffic, including commercial vehicles and emergency response units. When several vehicles enter the same space at once, even a single impact can quickly involve multiple drivers. Large vehicles such as fire engines and delivery trucks require longer stopping distances and wider turning spaces, which can increase the risk of secondary collisions.
Chain-reaction crashes frequently occur when drivers have limited time to react. Sudden impacts in the center of an intersection may cause vehicles to spin, slide, or strike nearby structures. In some cases, roadside features such as retaining walls or barriers can help prevent further damage.
Urban intersections benefit from clear signals, reduced speeds, and driver awareness during peak travel hours. Paying close attention to traffic flow and yielding properly can help lower the chance of multi-vehicle accidents in high-traffic areas.
