San Bernardino County, CA (January 24, 2026) – A multi-vehicle crash claimed the life of one person on Friday night in the Pinon Hills area of San Bernardino County. The fatal collision occurred around 8:20 p.m. on January 23 along State Route 138 near Mountain Rd, directly in front of a Chevron gas station.
Responding crews from the California Highway Patrol and local fire departments arrived to find three vehicles involved in the pileup. The scene prompted authorities to shut down SR-138 in both directions to allow for rescue efforts and an investigation.
Tragically, one person died at the scene. Additionally, reports confirmed that a dog was also killed in the collision. The identities of those involved have not yet been released, and it is not clear if others were injured.
The vehicles were later towed from the scene to be held as evidence. Officials have not released details on what led to the crash, and an investigation by CHP officers is ongoing.
