What Happens During an Investigation Into a Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash?
Hit-and-run pedestrian crashes often require investigators to work quickly to locate the suspect vehicle. Early steps typically include reviewing nearby surveillance cameras, traffic signals, and witness statements to identify possible leads.
Damage patterns, vehicle debris, and roadway evidence can help narrow down the type of vehicle involved. Investigators also examine the exact location where the pedestrian was struck to understand visibility and traffic conditions at the time of the crash. Medical reports can later help confirm the severity of injuries and support the timeline of the incident. In many cases, police continue gathering information over time as new tips or video footage become available.
