San Diego, CA (January 12, 2026) – A 36-year-old man sustained life-altering injuries Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross El Cajon Blvd in the University Heights neighborhood. The collision occurred around 9:15 p.m. on January 10 in the 2300 block of El Cajon Blvd, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Investigators say the man was walking from the north side of the boulevard to the south when he was hit by a westbound 2007 Mercedes-Benz S550. He was reportedly outside of a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash.
Police and fire personnel arrived quickly to find the pedestrian with severe injuries, including a partial foot amputation and an open fracture to one of his legs. Paramedics provided critical care before rushing him to a local hospital for treatment.
The driver, a 37-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. SDPD noted that impairment was not suspected as a factor in the collision.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with officers working to determine the full set of circumstances that led to the incident.
