SAN FRANCISCO, San Francisco County, Calif., Nov. 2, 2026 — A driver was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 80 at 7th Street on Saturday night, October 31, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision was reported shortly after 8 p.m. just west of 7th Street, where the vehicles came to rest blocking two right lanes of the freeway. Early radio traffic described a light-colored sedan and a dark SUV involved, though initial reports of the vehicles varied before the agency's log settled on the two-car crash. Debris was reported scattered across the eastbound connector lanes following the impact.
The driver of the lighter-colored sedan appeared to be seriously hurt, and an ambulance was requested to the scene. That driver was reportedly taken to San Francisco General Hospital.
Officers shut down the first and second lanes of eastbound I-80 while crews worked the scene. Both vehicles were later cleared from the roadway with the help of tow trucks, and the lanes were reopened.
The CHP has not said what led to the crash, and the investigation is ongoing. We wish the injured a speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does speed affect the severity of a crash like this?
Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which usually means more serious injuries and more vehicle damage.
Why is distracted driving considered so risky on freeways?
Even a brief lapse in attention at highway speed can cover a long distance before a driver reacts, making distracted driving a common factor in rear-end and lane-change collisions.
What should someone do immediately after a car accident?
Drivers should move to a safe location if possible, check for injuries, call 911, and exchange information with the other party while waiting for law enforcement to arrive.
