Sandnes Twp, MN (January 20, 2026) – A serious crash involving three vehicles led to injuries Monday afternoon in Yellow Medicine County. The incident occurred at the intersection of Hwy 23 and 160th Ave in Sandnes Township at approximately 12:14 p.m. on January 19.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including the Lyon County and Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Offices, arrived on scene to assist the victims. According to official reports, a westbound 2013 Lincoln MKX crossed into the eastbound lane, sideswiped a semi-truck, and then collided head-on with a third vehicle—a 2024 Ram pickup.
The driver of the Lincoln, 40-year-old Katie Elizabeth Leslie of Sauk Centre, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Avera Marshall Hospital for treatment. The Ram driver, identified as 63-year-old Todd Michael Risa of Clarkfield, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries but did not require hospital transport. The third driver, 49-year-old John David Wright of Brandon, SD, who was operating the 2022 Peterbilt semi, was unharmed.
All drivers involved were wearing seat belts, and no alcohol use was reported in connection with the crash. The roadway was dry at the time of the incident.
The Minnesota State Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
