Frequently Asked Questions
What should a rider do after a motorcycle crash?
Get to safety if possible, call 911, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some injuries aren't immediately obvious. Avoid moving significantly if a back or neck injury is suspected until help arrives.
Are motorcycle crashes more likely at intersections?
Intersections carry higher risk because they involve turning vehicles, crossing traffic and decisions made in short windows of time, all of which raise the chance a driver misses a motorcycle.
How does the road surface affect motorcycle safety?
Gravel, wet pavement, potholes and painted lane markings all reduce a motorcycle's traction more than they affect a car, making road conditions a bigger factor in rider safety.
What gear helps reduce injury for riders?
A DOT-approved helmet, a riding jacket and pants, gloves and over-the-ankle boots all help reduce the severity of injuries in a crash.
