Frequently Asked Questions
How can drivers avoid getting caught in a highway pile-up?
Keep a steady following distance, scan several car lengths ahead for brake lights, and slow down early when traffic bunches up rather than reacting at the last second.
What should I do if I'm stopped near a crash on the freeway?
Move as far onto the shoulder as possible, turn on hazard lights, and stay inside the vehicle with a seatbelt on unless it's unsafe to remain there, since standing in an active lane or the center divider puts you at risk from other traffic.
Why does following distance matter so much on highways like Route 14?
A longer gap gives a driver more time to brake or steer around trouble, which matters most on fast-moving freeway stretches where a rear-end impact can quickly draw in other vehicles.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Santa Clarita, CA
If you're involved in a multi-car wreck, check yourself and passengers for injuries before stepping out, and move to a safe spot off the traffic lanes if the vehicle is still drivable. Call 911 so medical help and law enforcement can respond and document the scene. Even if you feel fine, a medical check within a day or two is worth it, since some injuries from a collision don't show symptoms right away. Get the names and insurance information for everyone involved, and ask responding officers how to obtain the official report once it's filed.
