Santa Cruz, CA (January 14, 2026) – A 30-year-old man died following a hit-and-run crash Friday night in the 1700 block of Mission Street in Santa Cruz, according to the Santa Cruz Police Department. The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on January 9.
Authorities say the pedestrian was walking outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a northbound vehicle. The driver fled the scene without stopping to render aid. Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported the critically injured victim to a nearby hospital.
Despite efforts by medical personnel, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on Sunday, January 11. His identity has not yet been released as officials await notification of next-of-kin.
Police have since located and arrested the driver involved. Details surrounding the arrest and possible charges have not yet been made public. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to examine the circumstances leading up to the collision.
