Wilmington, DE (July 12, 2026) – Six people were injured and hospitalised after a school bus and a car collided on Thursday afternoon, July 9, at the intersection of 8th Street and Washington Street in Wilmington. The crash happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. after the police said the bus driver entered the intersection against a red traffic signal.
The 29-year-old Newark man driving the school bus was cited following the crash. Four students on the bus, along with a 39-year-old woman and her 8-year-old daughter inside the car, were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Officials said the students suffered minor injuries, and the woman and child were expected to recover.
Emergency units worked to remove the driver of the car, who was trapped after the collision. The remaining students were released to family members at the scene.
