Leawood, KS (August 19, 2026) – Authorities were dispatched to the scene where a 13-year-old boy was injured on Monday morning, August 17, after a car struck him while he was riding a motorized scooter near West 143rd Street and Mission Road.
The crash happened around 7:35 a.m. as the boy was traveling to school. Police said the boy was riding westbound on the sidewalk when he crossed the entrance to Prairie Star Elementary School. An eastbound vehicle was turning into the school parking lot when it struck the boy.
Leawood Fire Department and Johnson County MedAct medics provided initial care before taking him to a hospital. His current condition was not available.
