Seattle, WA (April 20, 2026) – Two cyclists were seriously hurt after being struck by a pickup truck early Monday morning, April 20, in Seattle.
The crash occurred around 4:20 a.m. on southbound Aurora Avenue North near Roy Street, close to the border of the Lower Queen Anne and South Lake Union areas. Emergency units responded and found an electric bike lodged under a white Chevrolet truck.
A man and a woman were riding the bike when the collision happened. Both were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Reports indicate the cyclists were traveling eastbound on Roy Street and entered southbound traffic on Aurora Avenue North before being struck.
The driver, a 69-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. No signs of impairment were reported.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
Why Collisions Between Vehicles and Cyclists Can Be Severe
Crashes involving cyclists and vehicles can result in serious injuries due to the lack of protection for riders. Even at lower speeds, the impact from a vehicle can cause significant harm.
Traffic patterns and road crossings can increase the risk. When cyclists move across lanes or enter busy roads, timing and visibility become critical. Drivers may not always expect a bicycle to enter their path.
Lighting conditions also affect these incidents, especially in early morning hours. Limited visibility can make it harder for both drivers and cyclists to see each other in time to avoid a crash.
