What Conditions Can Affect Pedestrian Safety at Intersections?
Intersections can be high-risk areas for pedestrians due to the movement of vehicles from multiple directions. Turning vehicles may cross paths with people walking, increasing the chance of a collision.
Traffic signals and timing also influence safety. Pedestrians may have limited time to cross, while drivers may be focused on navigating turns or watching other vehicles. This can create situations where awareness is reduced.
Lighting and visibility play a role as well. During evening hours, it may be harder for drivers to see pedestrians clearly. Road design, including crosswalk placement and signage, can also affect how safely people can cross the street.
