Chicago, IL (June 10, 2026) – A security guard was injured early Wednesday, June 10, after two SUVs collided at a busy downtown Chicago intersection.
The accident happened around 3:31 a.m. at State Street and Ida B. Wells Drive. The injured security guard, a 33-year-old man, was driving a white Ford SUV north on State Street.
The report said the Ford was a Chicago Transit Authority K-9 security unit. A Cadillac SUV was traveling west on Ida B. Wells Drive when it ran a red light and struck the Ford.
The Cadillac driver left the scene on foot after the collision. The Cadillac then ended up in a planter near the Harold Washington Library.
The security guard had trauma and was brought to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Police said he was listed in fair condition.
It was not immediately clear whether a dog was inside the security vehicle or whether any animal was hurt.
More details were not immediately available as the crash remains under review. We hope the security guard hurt in this wreck continues to recover.
Red-Light Crashes in Downtown Areas Create Serious Hazards
Red-light crashes in downtown intersections can be dangerous because vehicles, pedestrians, buses, and service units may all be moving through the same space. A driver who enters against a signal may give others little time to react.
Early morning hours may also affect visibility, even in well-lit city areas. Speed, building corners, parked vehicles, and traffic signal timing may all shape how a collision unfolds.
Crashes involving security or service vehicles may bring added questions about job duties, vehicle position, and whether any passengers or animals were inside. Reports may later clarify travel direction, signal status, vehicle speed, and why one driver left the area. Those details help explain how the downtown roadway accident happened.
