SELMA, Fresno County, Calif., Oct. 27, 2026 — A gray Honda Accord and a big rig collided Monday afternoon, October 26, on northbound Highway 99 at Highway 43 near Selma, blocking two lanes of traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported shortly before 4:35 p.m. in the number 1 and number 2 lanes, the CHP said. A caller to dispatchers reported that a gray vehicle had passed them at more than 90 mph just minutes before the collision, though it was not confirmed whether that vehicle was involved in the crash.
The CHP initially classified the call as a collision with a vehicle blocking traffic before updating it to a crash with minor injuries. The reporting party told dispatchers they were unable to move their vehicle out of the roadway, and officers noted the vehicles remained in the number 2 lane for a time after the crash.
A tow truck was called to the scene to remove a box truck involved in the incident. Emergency crews, including a medical unit dispatched through Selma Fire, responded and transported at least one person to a hospital, according to dispatch logs. The CHP has not released further details on the extent of injuries or the cause of the collision, which remains under investigation.
We wish those injured a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can drivers avoid getting caught in a highway pile-up?
Keep a safe following distance, watch traffic well ahead, and slow down early if you see brake lights or a slowdown forming in the distance.
What should I do if I'm stopped near a crash on the highway?
Turn on hazard lights, stay in your vehicle if it's safe to do so, and watch your mirrors for approaching traffic. If you must exit, move away from the lanes of travel and behind a barrier if possible.
Why does following distance matter so much on freeways?
A longer gap gives you more time to react if traffic ahead stops suddenly, which matters even more at higher speeds where stopping distances grow quickly.
What to Do After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Selma, CA
If you're involved in a multi-vehicle crash, check yourself and any passengers for injuries before doing anything else, and call 911 if anyone needs medical attention. Try to move to a safe location away from traffic if your vehicle is drivable and it's safe to do so. Make sure to exchange information with other drivers involved and get contact details for any witnesses. Even if you feel fine, consider getting checked by a medical professional, since some injuries from a collision don't show symptoms right away. Keep a copy of the CHP incident report for your records once it becomes available.
